PROGRAM

Estate Planning Issues & Opportunities Post-Election

There is a general expectation that post-election tax legislation will be passed in 2021, some of which may be retroactive to January 01, 2021. If the currently proposed tax legislation is passed, it may significantly impact current and future estate, gift, and GST plans, in addition to substantially increasing taxes.

Many of the current tax law proposals have called for reducing federal estate, gift, and GST exemptions, increasing estate, gift, GST, income, and capital gains tax rates, eliminating basis step-up, and modifying and/or eliminating some very powerful estate planning tools, such as GSTs, GRATs, IDGTs, SLATs, and valuation discounts.

This program will compare and contrast current tax law and current post-election tax proposals, with a focus on estate planning issues and opportunities, coupled with the current economic conditions.
